Mother Sues Fulton School District Over Bullying
FULTON, Mo. (AP) - A woman has sued the Fulton school district and several employees, alleging that her son and daughter were bullied by members of the high school wrestling team.
Twila Barnes also alleges in a federal lawsuit filed last week that coaches and school officials did not respond to complaints.
Barnes says her daughter was the only female on the wrestling team and was harassed by teammates because of her gender and because her former boyfriend is black. She says her son was bullied because of his perceived sexual orientation. She claims coaches and administrators did not respond to complaints or report the incidents to her.
Fulton schools Superintendent Jacque Cowherd told The Columbia Tribune that he was not aware of the lawsuit. But he said the district does not tolerate bullying.
