MU Athletics receives $8M donation for football facility
COLUMBIA — The MU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced another multi-million dollar gift on Wednesday, following a separate record-setting donation in early September.
The anonymous $8 million donation, along with the $10 million gift from September, will go toward construction on a new football training facility on the south side of Memorial Stadium.
The new facility is estimated to cost $75 million. With the new donation, the athletics department says it has raised $67 million of that goal.
Both gifts are among the top-five largest in the football program's history.
"I can't say enough just how thankful we are for gifts like this," said Head Football Coach Barry Odom in a press release. "We're going to create a first-class facility, something that our fans will be proud of, and something that will have a huge impact for years to come for our student-athletes."
Specific details on the new facility will not be available until final construction plans are approved. The athletics department will meet with architects, then present a final plan and funding model to the UM Board of Curators in February, according to Director of Athletics Jim Sterk.
