MU Engineering School Renovates

The school will undergo big renovations in one of it's buildings, Lafferre Hall.

The renovations will cost $21 million to upgrade engineering labs and classrooms, with $2 million comes from a federal grant and another $19 million from a loan approved by the board of curators last July.

Due to the weather, the groundbreaking ceremony took place indoors, but that didn't stop about 100 students, faculty and community members from attending.

Associate Dean Lex Akers says this project is only the beginning of future renovations at the engineering school.

"This particular section of it has been worked on for about the last three years, and it's one step of a much larger project of four or five sections we want to build onto this building and buildings across the street," said Akers.

Construction will begin this August and is expected to be complete by fall 2009.
