MU graduate arrested for tampering incident at Thomas Jefferson statue
COLUMBIA - The University of Missouri Police Department arrested 22-year-old Rachel Foster Sunday morning for tampering at the campus' Thomas Jefferson statue, according to a press release.
Foster is a 2020 graduate of the University.
Foster was later released with a summons for one count of tampering, a class A misdemeanor.
Foster is not the first person to be arrested by MUPD for incidents involving the statue. Ian Laird, 20, an MU student, was arrested earlier in July for placing graffiti on the sidewalk near the statue.
A petition circled in early June calling to remove the statue of Jefferson because of the founding father's ties to slavery. The university announced it would not remove the statue, and has labeled that decision as final.
