KOMU looks at what the UM system officials are doing to try and get in touch with everyone at risk of identity theft.
UM officials say they've sent numerous emails to alert the MU Alum and employees at risk.

More than 22,000 people are at risk for identity theft, many of whom are no longer employees and aren't associated with the university any more.

"We have sent about 13,000 letters," said UM system spokesman Scott Charton. "Many of the letters are going to people no longer associated with the university, but we've obtained addresses through the Alumni Association and other sources."

"We did work with the system to try and provide updated addresses, the ones that we had on file here for folks who say have moved away and didn't have a current address, or the address that was on that file was not the right one," said Todd McCubbin with the Mizzou Alumni Association.

The Mizzou Alumni Association is doing its part in directing alums who have been affected by the hacker, to the right authorities.

The Alumni Association hopes to better communication between the system and the alumni.

The school is also counting on the media to get the word out.
