MU Student Arrested for First-Degree Rape
COLUMBIA - The University of Missouri Police Department arrested an MU student Saturday for first-degree rape.
Officers from the University Police Department said they responded to Campus View Drive at 11:58 p.m. Friday in reference to a reported rape. Officers said a female victim reported she was raped by David Sowell, who was an acquaintance of hers.
Authorities said 20-year-old Sowell was transported to the University Police Department for questioning, and he was arrested for first-degree rape around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Sowell's bond was set at $100,000.
Football Spokesman Chad Moller said Sowell was a member of the Missouri football team from spring 2013 until he was dismissed for a team rules violation in August 2013.
University records show that Sowell is a sophomore business major at MU.
Officials said the rape investigation is still ongoing.
