MU Targets Tara Apartments
University property already surrounds Tara, whose owner said MU has been interested in it for some time.
"When the hospital expansion proposal came, along with the MOHELA program, they needed to displace some residents that were needing to move and then they came back on a stronger note," said John McGee.
By the end of next June, tenants who live in University Terrace will have to move because that site will become a parking lot by next fall. The Department of Residential Life wants to relocate those graduate students.
"A lot of the research is being done by our faculty who are assisted by our graduate students," said Frankie Minor, residential life director. "And graduate students have different needs than other graduates."
Minor said MU plans for older professional and grad students, especially those who are married, to become Tara's new residents.
