MU to Operate Missouri Theatre
COLUMBIA - MU officials worked Thursday to hammer out details of a lease to take over operation of the historic Missouri Theatre on Ninth Street. The theater is currently owned and operated by the Missouri Symphony Society, but it faces debt of more than $3 million.
Both parties involved in the deal said they will be gaining something. The Missouri Symphony Society will be making a huge step toward getting rid of the theater's debt problem and MU will have another large concert hall for events. Jesse Hall has an average of 230 events per year, but MU still turns away events because of the lack of another major venue.
