Mumps Cases Swell Up in Missouri
The Show-Me State reported those cases in north, west and northwest counties, near the Iowa state line. The Hawkeye State is the center of the mumps epidemic with at least 600 cases.
Missouri health officials said most of their cases are college students because of their close living conditions.
"Over about a five-year period we would only see 1-2 cases of mumps per year," explained public information administrator Brian Quinn.
Arizona is on alert for a possible mumps outbreak. Health officials said a student infected with mumps flew from Tucson to Dallas to Iowa.
