Music Fills Columbia Mall
The Parental Guidance Required program is not the only thing bringing families to the Columbia Mall. Now there is a program that will keep kids entertained too. It's called the Neighborhood Nights Program. Events included live music, arts and crafts, Nancy Drew puzzles, and carousel rides.
"I think it's great. In the summer months things are kinda muggy out, and it's hard to find things to do for younger families," Jared Jones, Columbia resident, explains.
Neighborhood Nights is a held in conjunction with the Parental Guidance Required program. The goal of this is to bring kids, teens, and their families to the mall together. Not only has the mall seen success in bringing in more families, it has also seen less crime and violence.
"We've actually reduced our security incidents over the past six months by about 90%, and we have seen an increase in families coming to the mall together," Sonja Derboven, Mall Marketing Manager, said.
The mall hopes to extend neighborhood nights to Saturdays. The next event includes face painting, carousel rides, and learning games sponsored by Barnes and Noble.
