NE Missouri Man Dies Shorty After Conviction
MARYVILLE - Nodaway County authorities say a 49-year-old man died after collapsing in court shortly after being convicted of sodomy.
Forty-eight-year-old Steve Parsons of Stanberry died Thursday after collapsing in Nodaway County Court.
Sheriff Darren White says shortly after Parsons was convicted, he said he didn't feel well and took a drink of water. Moments later, he threw his head back, arched his back and had a seizure. His condition deteriorated on the way to the hospital.
White says the death is being investigated as suspicious. He says it's unclear if Parsons ingested something or had a medical problem.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports that Parsons was convicted of statutory sodomy for having sex with a 17-year-old girl. He was the owner of Parsons Tire & Battery in Maryville.
