New Bill Renames Medicaid
The bill renames Medicaid as MO Health Net. The plan puts some low income people on a managed health care plan.
"It's designed to improve health outcomes, and give people a little more say in how they receive their health care than the current Medicaid system. It also has a provision design to help people buy health insurance," Sen. Charlie Shield of Kansas City said.
Critics say it does not restore cuts made two years ago.
"What they did is they cut the eligibility levels. They made it harder and harder for people to be eligible for it, and that's how it cuts people out of the system," grass roots organizer Kristen Walle said.
The discussion on this bill will continue through Wednesday. Shields hopes to get the bill out of the Senate by the end of the week.
