New County Commissioner Pledges to Pick Up Robb Projects
COLUMBIA - Dan Atwill, a Columbia attorney, was sworn in as Presiding Boone County Commissioner Friday afternoon, two days after Governor Nixon appointed him to the position.
Atwill, a Democrat, was appointed following the death of Republican Ed Robb who served as presiding commissioner since January. Robb collapsed Saturday, Sept. 24 after attending his son's birthday party and was pronounced dead later that day.
One of the major projects Robb was working on before he died was management of the Boone County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds' former general manager George Harris retired, and TAG Events Corporation took over as interim management Saturday.
Boone County Fairgrounds Interim Manager Mike Teel said Robb was instrumental in the management changeover. Teel also said the county commission plays a key role in the upkeep of the fairgrounds, particularly with funding.
The main project for TAG Events is maintenance of the fairgrounds. Teel said he has spoken to Atwill and the next step in the project will be taking him around the fairgrounds.
Teel has known Atwill for a few years, and they have served on a board together in the past.
