New event aims to bring together local entrepreneurs
COLUMBIA - A new, monthly event launching Tuesday intends to support local entrepreneurs, small business owners and minority business owners.
Radio station KOPN is organizing the DiverCity Business BASH. The BASH will take place at the Columbia Mall starting at 5:30 PM. The event will feature music, games, food and drinks. The event has several sponsors, including the City of Columbia and United Way.
KOPN community relations manager Cory Crosby is the event’s main organizer. Crosby said the BASH will give guests a chance to network and get more comfortable speaking to people they do not know.
“It’s real difficult for us to walk up to somebody we don’t know and ask who they are, ask something about them, you know, to get to know them,” Crosby said.
He said he hopes guests will learn the importance of networking.
“We share a lot of similarities, and sometimes it’s just about getting ourselves out there and meeting new people and doing new things to help us get further in whatever we’re trying to accomplish,” Crosby said.
The BASH is the first event of DiverCity. The program will feature events focused on bringing diverse people and cultures together, Crosby said.
The second event will be the Multicultural Holiday Rock at Hickman High School on Dec. 15.
