Best Buy and Office Depot plan to open their doors next August. They will share a 50,000 square-foot facility in the 3200 block of Missouri Boulevard, between Lowe's and Reagan Motors. Economic planners are happy because the stores will offer more retail shopping for residents.

"Well, I think that the more businesses we have in Jeff City the better off we are," explained Jefferson City resident Audrey Hoffman, "because I personally do not like driving to Columbia."

Although many Jefferson City shoppers do drive to Columbia, Best Buy manager Chris Marchetto isn't worried.

"There's a lot of drive time that our customers are doing to get to our store," he said. "So, we want to make it as easy and as quickly as possible for our customers to get to one of our store fronts."

Because Columbia and Jefferson City are growing, business leaders say new stores are good for everyone. And they hope the two latest arrivals will help attract more new stores.
