Nine Westminster College Football Players Recognized

FULTON - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference recognizes outstanding football players every year and nine Westminster College Football players were chosen. The Blue Jay were 8-2 on the season and finished second in the league standings at 7-2. Four of the nine football players chosen were seniors.

Senior receiver Carl Givens (Chesterfield, Mo./Chaminade was selected to the first-team. Givens had been recognized in all-conference for all four of his seasons. He also was the leading receiver in receptions a game (7.7) in the conference. This season, Givens caught 77 passes for 954 yards and 11 touchdowns. In his 39-game career, he had 232 receptions for 3504 yards and 42 touchdowns.

Senior running back Zain Gower (Warrensburg, Mo./Warrensburg) also was a first-team selection. Gower missed the 2010 season due to an injury, but returned this year to lead the league in all-purpose yards a game (151.7). He rushed 206 times for 969 yards and 11 touchdowns in a total of 10 games.

Senior defensive back Shane Harris (St. Louis, Mo./Collinsville, Ill.) was the last senior to be selected to the first-team. Harris set a school-record with a 100 yard returned interception. He had four interceptions in nine games and three fumble recoveries.

Senior defensive back Kelvin Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Gateway Tech.) was selected to the all-conference second team. Wiiliams finished his 39-game career with 15 interceptions, and led the conference with five interceptions.
