Nixon appoints new Missouri mental health director
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - A longtime mental health official has been appointed director of Missouri's Mental Health Department.
Gov. Jay Nixon on Thursday picked Mark Stringer to lead the department once Director Keith Schafer retires.
Stringer's appointment still must be confirmed by the state Senate. He's set to start work July 1.
Stringer now serves as the director of the Division of Behavioral Health, which deals with connecting people struggling with drug and alcohol abuse with treatment.
His biography through the department says he's worked in the fields of mental health and substance abuse for more than 26 years.
