Nixon, Spence Both Campaigning on Economy
WENTZVILLE, Mo. - With polls tightening and the election campaign entering its final week, both incumbent Democratic Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and Republican challenger Dave Spence are campaigning on the economy, but with starkly different takes.
Nixon is scheduled to meet Tuesday in Wentzville with autoworkers from the GM plant in the eastern Missouri town, automotive suppliers and their families. He will discuss the efforts to attract thousands of high-paying automotive jobs to Missouri.
Meanwhile, Spence is making stops in Farmington, Cape Girardeau and Poplar Bluff discussing his plan to increase jobs in Missouri.
In TV ads, Nixon cites Missouri's low unemployment rate compared to many neighboring states. In his ads, Spence makes reference to boarded up businesses and says many people have simply given up trying to find work.
