No. 13 Baylor Downs Mizzou
WACO, TX -- The Mizzou women's tennis team fell 7-0 to the No. 13 Baylor Bears Sunday afternoon in Waco Texas. The loss dropped Missouri's record to 10-11 overall and 2-7 in Big 12 Conference action, while the Bears improved to 21-6 and 7-2.
The Bears started the match with a sweep of all three doubles contests to earn the doubles. At No. 1 action, the No. 17 ranked team of Nina Secerbegovic and Ema Burgic defeated seniors Nina Pantic and Jamie Mera, 8-3. Sona Novakova and Diana Nakic ousted juniors Maria Christensen and Annamijn Koenen, 8-1, at No. 2 and Megan Horter and Nicole Kosakowski posted an 8-3 win over freshman Alex Clark and Ashleigh Chiaf.
Baylor also claimed all six singles matches to record the 7-0 victory. At No. 1 singles, No. 24 Secerbergovic downed Pantic, 6-0, 6-2, while No. 12 Nakic defeated Christensen, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 action.
Clark also suffered a loss to a ranked opponent, as Novakova beat the freshman 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 action. Also recording victories for the Bears were Burgic (6-0, 6-1 over Mera), Horter (6-3, 6-3 over Koenen) and Kosakowski (6-1, 6-3 over Chiaf).
Mizzou next travels to College Station, Texas, for the 2012 Big 12 Tennis Championships. The Tigers earned the No. 8 seed and will face the No. 9 seed at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 26 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M.
