No. 13 Mizzou Womens Basketball keeps it close in 59-51 win
AUBURN, AL – Riding a three-game win streak after a convincing 84-58 win over Arkansas, the Tigers traveled for the second time in three days for their game against the Auburn Tigers.
It seemed like early like Mizzou would have an Arkansas-like day as they stormed out to a 30-16 lead going into halftime.
Auburn, led by Janiah McKay, out-scored the Tigers 18-11 in the third quarter in an effort to close in on Missouri.
Senior Jordan Frericks thought otherwise as she led the team with 19 points, 8 rebound and 4 assists. Sophie Cunningham 12 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
But it was a sweet behind the back pass to Frericks that stole the show.
Mizzou just outscored their hosts 18-17 in the fourth to hold out the win.
No other Tigers scored in double-digits, Amber Smith and Cierra Porter both scored seven points in the effort.
The Tigers come back home this Sunday as they take on the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers.
Coach Robin Pingeton’s squad is in fifth place both a win over the Volunteers would put them in the top for, a critical spot as the SEC Tournament is just 13 days away.
