No. 19 Texas Tech Defeats Mizzou Tennis
LUBBOCK, TX -- The Mizzou women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss at the hands of No. 19 Texas Tech Friday night in Lubbock, Texas. The loss dropped Missouri's record to 10-10 overall and 2-6 in Big 12 play, while the Red Raiders improved to 17-4 overall and 7-1 in conference action.
Texas Tech earned the doubles point with a sweep of all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, the team of Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo, ranked 28th nationally, defeated seniors Nina Pantic and Jamie Mera, 8-4. Nikki Sanders and Caroline Starck beat juniors Maria Christensen and Annemijn Koenen, 8-3, at No. 2, and Rashmi Teltumbde and Elizabeth Ullathorne posted an 8-3 win over freshmen Alex Clark and Ashleigh Chiaf at No. 3.
Christensen, playing at No. 2 singles, picked up Mizzou's only win of the afternoon, a tough 5-7, 7-6 (9-7), 1-0 (10-3) victory over Adams.
At. No. 1 action, Tech's Ullathrone claimed a 6-4, 6-0 win over Pantic, while Teltumbde defeated Clark at No. 3, 6-3, 6-4. Starck defeated Mera, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 action, Kilgo posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Koenen at No. 5 singles and Sanders defeated Chiaf, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 6.
Mizzou concludes regular season action on Sunday, April 22 when the Tigers take on No. 13 Baylor at 1 p.m. in Waco, Texas.
