No. 20 Mizzou softball run rules Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas - The No. 20 Mizzou softball team opened the weekend series with a five inning victory over Arkansas, 9-0. The Tigers scored six runs in the first inning, which helped lead the team to a run rule win.
Junior Taylor Gadbois drew a lead-off walk to begin the game and then stole her 75th career base. Junior Emily Crane hit a single to left to score Gadbois. The next batter, junior Sami Fagan hit a two-run homer to right to give Mizzou a 3-0 lead with no outs in the first.
The next three Tiger batters all received walks before an error on Arkansas scored another run for Mizzou. Gadbois came to the plate for the second time in the first inning and hit a single to left, to score two more runs and give the team a 6-0 lead in the top of the first.
In the fifth inning, senior Corrin Genovese hit two-out double down the right field to drive in Fagan and give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. Senior Kelsea Roth then hit a single to center to score Genovese. That RBI was No. 130 for Roth, giving her the eighth-most in Mizzou history.
Sophomore right-hander Tori Finucane helped the Tigers out on the mound as well. She tossed a complete-game shutout and tied her season-high strikeouts with eight. Finucane only allowed three hits. She improved to 16-6 on the season with a 2.99 ERA.
Mizzou and Arkansas face-off again at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.
