COLUMBIA -- The No. 5 Mizzou softball team was unable to match No. 7 Texas A&M punch-for-punch in Saturday's action at University Field, yielding an 11-3, six-inning result to the visitors. The game set up a rubber match occasion for the Tigers' Sunday, March 10, series finale against the Aggies, scheduled to begin at noon.

Sophomore 1B Kelsea Roth and junior utility player Mackenzie Sykes homered for the Tigers. The long shot by Roth was her second of the series and sixth of the season after her game-winning effort to end Friday's game. Sykes' missile of a home run, her second of the year, was powered directly into the light pole overlooking the right center field wall.

The Tigers dropped to 10-2 (1-1 SEC), while Texas A&M improved to 23-2 (1-1 SEC) with the result.

Mizzou pulled within 3-2 when the Tigers plated their second run off Roth's home run. A tough eight-run top of the sixth inning put momentum on the Aggies' side for the remainder of the contest.

Senior catcher Jenna Marston and Sykes led Mizzou offensively with two hits each, while senior 3B Nicole Hudson batted 1-for-1, drawing two walks. Marston's lone base on balls gave her 115 walks in her career, tying her with Jen Bruck (2005-08) at No. 1 in Mizzou's record books.

Marston's second hit of the game scored pinch hitter Kelsi Jones in the bottom of the sixth inning, setting the final score of 11-3.

Senior pitcher Chelsea Thomas suffered her first setback of the season (4-1) with 5.0 innings of work, allowing seven hits, five runs and four earned runs while striking out five Aggie batters. Texas A&M's Dumezich also allowed seven hits while pitching 6.0 innings to the win (16-1).

Live coverage on Sunday will be provided to Mizzou Network subscribers.
