Nuclear Permit Bill Does Not Pass
JEFFERSON CITY - At the last minute, lawmakers looked at a bill that would allow utility companies to start charging consumers for the permitting costs to build a new reactor in Callaway County. Around 5:50pm, session adjourned without passing the nuclear permit bill.
Supporters of the bill said this measure could have created jobs and offered an alternative energy source to the area. Those against the bill worried about consumer protection.
Friday, lawmakers attempted to satisfy both sides by working on the language of the bill. The bill sponsor's secretary said lawmakers placed the bill on the informal calendar.
