O'Reilly Automotive Sees Big Jump in Profits
The Springfield based retailer has more than 1400 stores, mostly in the Midwest and Southeast. CEO Greg Henslee says Hurricanes Katrina and Rita damaged some O'Reilly stores but had no significant effect on earnings. Henslee praised the company's employees for helping the stores recover. O'Reilly says it earned nearly $49 million, about 42 cents per share, in the latest quarter. That compares with 31 cents per share in the third period last year. Excluding a one-time tax rate benefit, O'Reilly says it would have earned 37 cents per share in this year's third quarter. Sales in the period were up 19%, at $543.
