Obama to Preview Debt Speech to Top Lawmakers
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama will host congressional leaders at the White House on Wednesday to give them a preview of
his speech on reducing the nation's debt. Obama will meet with lawmakers ahead of his 1:30 p.m. EDT remarks at George Washington University.
The Republicans expected to attend the morning meeting are House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of
Virginia, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona. Democrats include Senate Majority Leader
Harry Reid of Nevada, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of
Obama's speech comes amid a renewed push within Washington's divided government to cut the debt, but the parties are deeply divided on how to do it.
