One Dead in Clinton Collapse
Police say 32-year-old Tony Komer died after being trapped in thecollapse. Komer was on the third floor of the Elks building when it collapsed.
Two victims flew by helicopter to the hosiptal with a possible broken leg and other injuries. But police said others who were inside were up and walking around unhurt after the accident. Witnesses said there was a crumbling or cracking sound and then the building collapsed about 7:30 p.m Monday. About 60 people were there for an Elks initiation meeting. The building also housed a men's clothing store on its ground floor. The third floor collapsed into the second floor and ground floor. Adjacent buildings also suffered damaged. The cause of the collapse is still unknown, though some say the building had standing water on its roof.
The Boone County Fire Protection District's Task Force One has been part of the rescue efforts. The team worked to stablize the building and reach the victims.
Clinton is about 25 miles south of Warrensburg on Highway 13.
