One Last Splash: Labor Day Means Pools Close
COLUMBIA - Labor Day marks the traditional end of the swimming season at many of Columbia's outdoor pools, where a handful of swimmers cooled off today.
The Albert-Oakland Family Aquatic Center, among many other pools, will close for the year after Labor Day.
One pool goer, Margaret Booker, says she uses the pool all summer. She is already considering other options to continue swimming in the cooler months.
"This year, because we've been doing more swimming this summer, because we've been thinking about exercise. We're talking about looking into Hickman's hours, and we might try Finger Lakes for outside swimming until it gets too cold," Booker said.
Some local pools, including Douglass Park Aquatic Center, closed earlier in August.
During the winter, Columbia's indoor Arc Pool remains open.
According to Booker, kids enjoy swimming there in the colder months, but many adults do not because the water is too warm.
