Only Returning Starter Up for Challenge
For Leeann Fossum, the job is not easy. She's the only returning starter on a Columbia College team with a short bench and lots of new faces. The Harrisburg native says she gets her will to play from Mid-Missouri fans.
"The support, the crowd, everything. I mean, it's great being out on that court running up and down, you know, making the shots and winning and stuff, but the crowd is the best part--having them there to support you," LeeAnn Fossum said.
Fossum is the Lady Cougars' leading scorer, averaging over 13 points per game. But Head Coach Mike Davis says its Fossum's efforts in practice that truly set her apart as a team leader.
"She's the first one running, she's the first one there doing things. And I think so many times we say that, but she's someone that really, truly leads by example and sets a standard of work ethic for us," said Lady Cougars Head Coach Mike Davis.
"They think I'm crazy sometimes. I tend to push them a little hard sometimes," Fossum said."
This year she sees this as a different role for her. A different situation where she needs to step forward and be that leader for us, and I think she's done a fantastic job on and off the court," Davis said.
For Fossum, it may be a different role, but the goal is the same: Winning. She scored a career high 22 points for the Cougars on Monday, but they suffered a loss to Oklahoma Baptist.vColumbia looks to get back in the win column December sixth against Park University of Kansas.
