Opponents to Rally Outside EEZ Meeting
COLUMBIA - Critics plan to rally outside City Hall during the EEZ Advisory Board's meeting Wednesday afternoon to demonstrate their continuing opposition to the establishment of one of these zones.
EEZ activist Linda Green said she expects people at the rally to stay for the meeting at City Hall from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The EEZ board has been a controversial topic since its creation because its purpose is to declare some Columbia areas as blighted as part of an economic development approach.
Opponents said that calling parts of the city blighted opens the door for eminent domain claims that could destroy private property, but the city argues the EEZ board will help reduce poverty.
