Osage River closed to boaters indefinitely
LAKE OZARK - The Missouri State Highway Patrol announced boating restrictions on the Osage River Tuesday.
A news release said the river will be closed to all recreational boating traffic from the Missouri River to the Bagnell Dam.
Missouri Department of Public Safety Director Sandy Karsten authorized the closure after the department determined conditions are no longer conducive to a safe recreational boating environment.
The release cited strong current and excessive debris as contributing factors.
MSHP warned boaters that flooded rivers and streams with strong currents present extremely dangerous situations with increased potential to capsize or flip boats.
Officials expect the closure to reduce further damage to docks and other property as a result of flooding.
The closure will remain in effect until further notice.
