Overnight Storms Tear Through Mid-Missouri
MID-MISSOURI - Overnight storms tore through Mid-Missouri sending pouring rain, lightning and heavy winds topping 60 miles per hour.
In Columbia, store parking lots looked like "weather warzones" Monday morning. Winds whipping through the lot at Hyvee on Grindstone Parkway knocked over patio furniture and sent tarps flying. Just down the street at Wal-Mart, high winds set shopping carts loose in the parking lot.
Viewers called into KOMU News with reports of high winds and power outages. In Clark, one viewer reported swirling winds. Another viewer in Renick reported power outages and roofs blown off houses.
The Boone County Sheriffs Department received several calls after 40 mile per hour winds pushed open doors, setting off burglary alarms.
