"Tee ball, bowling and I feel good playing that," she said.
About 300 athletes and coaches were in Jefferson City's Riverside Park for Friday's opening ceremony. The 3-day event features a variety of sports, including golf and softball.
"Athletes get ready for a weekend of fun and excitement in the games that they'll be playing," said Susan Shaffer, competition coordinator. "So it's really nice to see them all together, one big event at the opening ceremony. It always kicks the weekend off great."
The Special Olympics is for Missouri residents with mental disabilities. The event usually raises about $100,000 through sponsorships each year.
