Passions' Robber Arrested for Eight Crimes in 10 Weeks

COLUMBIA - Police arrested Jermell Lamar Burnett for two robberies and six thefts Tuesday night.

According to a press release from Columbia Police, Burnett, 29, was located at 4508 Stevendave Drive and arrested for robbing Earthgrains on Sep. 12. According to police, Burnett entered the business with a sock over his hand and ordered an employee to open the cash register. The employee did not respond so Burnett stole a can of soda and left the area on a red bicycle. Burnett was arrested for first degree robbery with an undetermined bond.

Burnett has robbed four other businesses and two fruit stands on or near Business Loop 70. He was given a $4,500 bond for each crime. The list of known robberies and thefts include:

On July 27 at 2:10 p.m., Burnett allegedly stole 10 car batteries from Battery Outfitters at 304 Nebraska Avenue and sold them back to the store for scrap.

On Aug. 6 at 4:53 p.m., Burnett allegedly stole five car batteries from Battery Outfitters and tried to sell them back to the business.

On Aug.15 at 5:00 p.m., Burnett allegedly stole 10 car batteries out of several vehicles at 63 Auto Sales.

On Aug.21 at 11:41 a.m., in the parking lot of Rangeline St. and Lakeview, Burnett was charged with stealing a cash drawer from a fruit stand.

On Aug. 26 at 10:57 p.m., Burnett allegedly stole several tools from Mike's Auto Repair.

On Sep.17 at 7:40 p.m., Burnett allegedly stole the cash register at Passions at 1108 Business Loop 70.

On Sep. 16 at 5:26 p.m., Burnett allegedly stole a cash drawer from a fruit stand in the parking lot of 915 Business Loop 70 East.
