Columbia - Thursday's quick drop in temperatures, coupled with some precipitation, made driving very difficult on some roads.

However, main roads should be safe enough to drive.

According to KOMU 8 chief meteorologist Kenton Gewecke, "The rain Thursday morning created wet roadways. This was then sustained by sleet and flurries in the afternoon and evening hours. These wet roads will ice over as ground cool below freezing tonight if they do not dry first or are not treated."

He warned that people need to pay close attention to black ice Friday morning because any ice that forms overnight will not melt before the morning commute if it is not treated. Kenton says main roads should be "good to go" but residential and other less traveled roads might be slick.

Parking lots and sidewalks will also need to be monitored for black ice. Otherwise, Kenton says to bundle up! He says wind chills will be between -10 and 0 degrees Friday morning.
