Pedestrian hit by car, killed on Providence Road
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Police Department confirmed a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car Thursday at Providence Road and Carter Lane, which is near the Waffle House.
Police said the victim is a 24-year-old woman and was hit while trying to cross Providence. The driver, a 30-year-old man, was driving north on Providence and did not see the pedestrian in the road. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police do not believe the driver was speeding and said the driver was not impaired by drugs or alcohol.
The Thursday night crash was the third car versus pedestrian incident in Columbia Thursday.
Thursday morning, an MU student was hit by a van while she was crossing College Avenue. She was taken to the hospital, but police have not released details of her injuries.
Thursday evening, a man was hit by a car on Providence Road just south of Nifong Boulevard. Columbia Police said the man was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
