Pedestrian killed near Grand Glaize Bridge
OSAGE BEACH - On Thursday, Sept. 11 a car hit a pedestrian on Highway 54 near the Grand Glaize bridge in Camden County.
The 44 year-old victim, Timothy Miesner, had parked his car on the shoulder of Highway 54 eastbound because he ran out of gas. He then walked toward a nearby gas station on the opposite side of the highway.
When Miesner was walking back to his car, a seventeen year-old driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla hit him. Miesner was taken to Lake Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officer Arlyne Paige said the accident was not related to reckless driving, but instead, the teen did not have enough time to stop. According to officers, the teenager honked several times, but Miesner continued to walk toward his car. Osage Beach Police said they will not file any charges against the driver.
"We do not encourage any stopping on the bridge whatsoever," said Paige.
As an alternative, drivers are advised to call someone to assist them. Officers also carry gas cans and can help drivers in trouble.
