COLUMBIA - A pedestrian suffered moderate injuries after being hit by a car on the 1400 block of Rangeline Street Thursday night, officials said.

According to the Columbia Police Department, 36-year-old Carmalita Bowman was walking across Rangeline when 17-year-old Cheyenne James drove out of the Phillips 66 gas station parking lot.  Despite an attempt to avoid Bowman, James hit Bowman with her car, police said.

Bowman was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, according to authorities. Bowman was not in a pedestrian crosswalk when she was hit.

Officers said they do not suspect speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
