Pennix Named Big 12 Athlete of the Week
COLUMBIA -- Mizzou track and field junior Malcolm Pennix has been named the Big 12 Track and Field Male Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Pennix is the first Tiger to take home this award since former Tiger All-American Brian Hancock took home the award on Feb. 22 of last season.
Pennix made his Tiger debut at last week's MU-KU Border Dual in record-breaking fashion as he turned in one of the best long jump performances in school history. In fact, he jumped farther than any other Tiger since 1974 as he turned in a national-leading mark of 7.74m (25-4 ¾), winning the event. His mark was a personal-best and leads the nation at this point of the season.
The mark ranks Pennix third on Mizzou's all-time indoor long jump performance list and is also the Tigers' best indoor long jump mark since Ajay Agbebaku jumped 7.84m (25-8 ¾) in 1974. Not only did Pennix shine in the long jump, but he also won the men's 60m dash at the meet with a time of 6.78, the third-best mark in program history.
