Petition on campaign financing, other rules moves forward
Jefferson City - Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander announced today that an initiative petition relating to the General Assembly met state standards for circulation.
The ballot, 2016-005, which would amend Article III of the Missouri Constitution, would set limits on campaign contributions and gifts that candidates for state legislature can accept from individuals or groups and prohibit political fundraising on general assembly property.
The ballot would also prohibit legislators and employees from serving as paid lobbyists, require legislative records to be open to the public and prohibit any law limiting valid signatures on petitions.
Signatures on petition 2016-005 are due by May 8.
