KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Royals took on the Philadelphia Phillies for a three-game series over the weekend.
The Royals started strong in game one, winning 5-1. Alex Gordon proved to be the star on Friday. He hit two home runs off Phillies starter Jake Arrieta en route to his 1,500th career hit.
The Phillies beat the Royals in game two, 7-0. Phillies starter Zach Eflin went the distance to shutout the Royals, earning the fourth complete game of his career.
Kansas City could not get the offense going in game three, losing 6-1. The Royals faced Phillies starter Cole Irvin, making his Major League debut. The Royals were able to string together a few hits against the rookie for one run in the third but were unable to get on the board after that.
