Pinkel's Nephew to Become New Safeties Coach for Mizzou
COLUMBIA -- The Missouri football team has already found Barry Odom's replacement for next season and it's someone close to the Tiger family. On Saturday, Eric Schmoldt of the Casper Star-Tribune tweeted confirming that Mizzou head football coach Gary Pinkel's nephew Alex Grinch will leave his position at Wyoming following their bowl game to coach for his uncle.
Grinch is the son of Coach Pinkel's older sister Kathy. He graduated in 2002 from Mount Union College and then worked as a graduate assistant in 2003 and 2004 for Missouri before going on to work at New Hampshire for four seasons (2005-08). Grinch accepted the job of assistant coach (secondary/recruiting coordinator) at the University of Wyoming under former Missouri offensive coordinator and now head coach Dave Christensen in December of 2008.
Current Missouri safeties coach Barry Odom will leave Missouri after the Tigers' December 26th Independence Bowl game against North Carolina to becoming the defensive coordinator at the University of Memphis. He is the first assistant coach to leave the Mizzou program since 2008 when Christensen left along with former defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus who went to coach for the Cleveland Browns and is currently the Dallas Cowboys' linebackers coach.
