WEST PLAINS (AP) - A southern Missouri man is expected to be arraigned today in the death of his 18-month-old stepdaughter. 22-year-old Joseph Frye of West Plains is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Jaycee Hardin at his home. The Missouri attorney general's office will prosecute the case in Howell County. The highway patrol says paramedics called to Frye's home early May 10 rushed the toddler to a hospital in West Plains, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities say it appears she died of blunt-force trauma to the stomach. Records show two circuit judges recused themselves from the case to avoid the appearance of impropriety. One cited an acquaintance with Frye's family, but reasons for the other judge's recusal were not known.
