Planners Defuse MKT Paving Protest
Other people at the public forum echoed those concerns. However, a committee that's ready to make recommendations said paved trails are in the city's future.
"Paved trails seem to be the standard, are the standard, around the country," said Ted Curtis, city planner. "If you look at the cities that are making a difference, they all have paved trails. They've all switched from gravel at one point to paved."
The committee voted to pave new trails, but leave the MKT alone, at least for the time being. Committee members also said they will consider improving the MKT by paving a center lane while leaving both shoulders unpaved.
