ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) - The Platte County Sheriff's Department has completed an investigation into a former officer and will present its findings to the county prosecutor.

The St. Joseph News Press reported that Platte County Sheriff Richard L. Anderson made the announcement Tuesday afternoon. He said in a new release that it's "in the public's best interest to have the facts reviewed by an uninvolved third party."

Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd says a special prosecutor will be hired because he has a close relationship with the Platte County Sheriff's Department.

No specifics have been given about what caused the officer to be suspended from his work on July 25. The officer retired about a week later. The sheriff's office said only that the officer's suspension was due to department violations.
