Police arrest two men after shots fired reported in north Columbia
COLUMBIA — Police arrested two men after shots fired were reported in northern Columbia early Saturday morning.
Officers said they arrived on scene at the Columbia Square Apartments around 5 a.m. and found the two suspects sitting in a vehicle.
The driver, 33-year-old Rod Jamal Jones, had a handgun in his waistband, according to the Columbia Police Department. Jones ran away from the scene but was taken into custody at the intersection of Stadium Boulevard and Ash Street, officers said.
The passenger, 20-year-old Marlin Cortez Johnson, got out of the vehicle and officers ordered him to the ground. CPD said Johnson tried to pull away from officers while they were arresting him.
Police said they found multiple shell casings at the scene that match the live rounds inside the vehicle.
