COLUMBIA - Columbia police said a suspect in a purse robbery defecated in one police car, damaged another, urinated on an officer and flooded a holding cell Sunday.

Dorice Smith was being held on a $40,300 bond and accused of a host of charges including resisting arrest, property damage, assault and robbery.

It all started when, according to the victim, a man in a gray baseball hat and black coat stole her purse from her hand in the parking lot of Moser's grocery store on Business Loop 70. She said he took the purse and started running towards the Aldi's parking lot.

Witnesses saw the man get into a red Toyota in the Aldi's parking lot and officers were able to pull him over. The suspect was identified as Smith.

Police said Smith ran away when a sergeant tried to handcuff him. He was detained shortly after.

Once he was taken into the Columbia Police Department, officers said Smith attempted to break the fingerprint machine and flooded a holding cell.

Later, while on his way to the Boone County jail, police said, Smith urinated on the officer driving, a gear bag, the center console and passenger seat. The report said Smith then defecated in the back seat and then put the feces on his foot and spread it on the ceiling near the officer's head.

At the Boone County jail, police said, Smith took all his clothes off and attempted to destroy a smoke detector in his cell. He was seen on camera eating something and shoving part of it down a drain in the cell. Police said when officers went into the cell, they found what was left of marijuana wrapped in aluminum foil.

Smith was taken to the hospital for possible drug ingestion and on the way there, police said, he kicked the door of the patrol car so hard it moved the plexiglass and bent the top of the door, making the car unusable.

Police said when they searched Smith, they found a stolen social security card which officers determined was from a wallet robbery in 2012.
