Police ID Victim in SW Mo. Car-Train Collision
SPRINGFIELD (AP) - Springfield authorities have released the name of a driver killed when his vehicle crashed into a train car sitting on tracks in a rail yard.
The accident early Sunday also sent three teenagers to the hospital with critical injuries.
Police said Monday that a 2006 Ford Mustang driven by 23-year-old Christopher Peay, of Springfield, went off a city street and crossed onto a gravel rail yard owned by Burlington Northern. The car crossed one set of tracks before crashing into a rail car parked on another set of tracks.
Peay died Sunday morning at a Springfield hospital. The conditions of his three injured passengers were not available Monday.
