CAPE GIRARDEAU - People who knew Derek Hale here while he was growing up question why Delaware police shot and killed the 25-year-old ex-Marine. Hale, of Manassas, Va., died Nov. 6 when investigators shot him with a Taser after he wouldn't take his hands from his pockets. When he continued to struggle, a Wilmington officer shot him with a gun. Hale's widow plans to sue. Hale's father, who still lives in Cape Girardeau, said his son was a good kid. One acquaintance said it was ironic that Hale, who served two tours of duty in Iraq, died at the hands of police back home.
