UPDATE: Suspects in Eastland Circle shooting identified, charged
COLUMBIA - Prosecutors charged two men Tuesday in connection with a shooting on Eastland Circle a day earlier.
Columbia Police officers responded to a shots fired call in the 1100 block of Eastland Circle around 1:30 p.m. They spoke to the victim, whose injury was not life threatening and who refused to go to a hospital.
Police gathered suspect information and later arrested two men at Academy Sports on Trimble Road. Alec McCabe, 27, faces one charge of assault; Chad Baker, 30, faces charges of assault and armed criminal action.
According to court documents, the suspects and victim got into an argument, during which Baker pulled a gun and opened fire. The victim told police he used pepper spray on Baker in return, after which both suspects drove away from the home.
A witness said Baker was upset with the victim because the latter apparently "tried to 'rape' [Baker's] sister."
Both men are at the Boone County jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
